Also I just figure at some point I'm gonna need some level of close up that isn't hand to hand or handguns. Maybe something with a little bit of range that I can channel my powers through...

Kinda... it was an improvised lasso of sorts by way of a life preserver but it makes for a hell of a good story, in my not-so-humble opinion.
